I've been accepted into UCSD at Sixth College for an undecided major, as CS was impacted. I've also received an offer from my local school, Oklahoma University, for near full-ride tuition thanks to National Merit. My family's income is much to high to receive any financial aid, which is disappointing since my parents are also putting one of my brother through school and another through law school. I am wondering if attending UCSD is worth the $53,000 per year my family would be spending. If so, what are the specific advantages I would receive by attending UCSD. Finally, would spending my first two years at OU, then transferring to another school (quite possibly UCSD) be a good option. Can I find any advice here?

OU is a safer bet due to the lower cost. It apparently does not have any barrier to admission to the CS major (though you should verify that), unlike UCSD. The main disadvantage of OU would be that it is less convenient for many CS employers to recruit at (they tend to recruit locally or regionally due to convenience).

Yeah, I figured it would be more difficult to get recruited for internships and jobs, but saving ~$200,000 sounds like it could be worth it.

This is an easy one… unless your family is made of money, this OU is, by far the right choice. UCSD isn’t worth the extra 200k. You’ll get a great education and find plenty of opportunities at OU.
Good luck.

Yeah, I could not justify turning down a free offer and paying $200k for the same degree. Unless I miraculously receive some sort of aid, it seems I’ll be attending OU. Thanks for the advice!

I agree, don’t come here to UCSD for school, you could do it for grad school. It’s not worth the loans for $200k.
