comm app optional essay?

if you submit the comm app, the $10 essay and the academic interests essays are optional right?

yes. the jhu essays are optional if you pick one of the common app essays.

yea but they "strongly encourage" you to write it meaning that majority of the applicants will be writing them and you might be in disadvantage if you don't write them.

I'm actually writing common app too, and I'm writing the $10 essay only. (not the influential essay one)

yeah, i did the $10 one already but i kinda don't want to do the other.

Am I the only one who's doing the common app and the influential course one, without the $10 essay?

I feel like if I do the $10, my essay won't be as nearly as creative as other people's. I've been busting out essays all week, and my creative juices are a bit low at the moment.

so wait......we're only allowed to do one out of the two essays on the supplement?

no it doesn't matter. your choice. do both, only one or none.

oh ok thanks

read the Hopkins Insider blog...

"I am applying with the Common Application. Do I need to submit the two Johns Hopkins essays included in the supplement? Do the Hopkins essays have a word limit?

For applicants applying using the Common Application the only required essay is one of the Common Application essays. However, the Admissions staff strongly encourages all applicants, including those using the Common Application, to submit BOTH the Johns Hopkins essays. These two essays can be in addition to the Common Application essay or in lieu of it."

AND OH YEAH - CHECK OLD THREADS!!! This question has come up what seems like hundreds of times.

You don't have to do the JHU essays - BUT YOU SHOULD! Can it be said any clearer.
