Have any of you guys received decisions on your communication studies applications? Just wondering... it's almost September.

they haven't notified yet? huh.

good luck yo

Wow, you guys still haven't received it? Hopefully there's still space in the upper div classes for those accepted.

Thanks allie. By the way... I'm officially your successor. Heh... I really owe you.

so my counselor told me i might be able to apply to get into the comm studies major this year. im an incoming transfer student, but im trying to get out of poli sci, or at least dual major with comm. how hard is it to get in?

you can only double major in comm if comm is your primary major and you add the other one later. its very very rare to be accepted into comm if you're already declared in something else. just fyi.

also, i don't know how many transfers are able to switch into comm, if any are at all. usually you have to be directly accepted into comm as a transfer app. since they make decisions for admission once per year, you won't be able to apply to comm until spring of this year and it would significantly delay your progress, and even then nothing is guaranteed. i honestly don't know if theyll even let you do that. its generally considered one of, if not the absolute, strictest of departments in LS when it comes to admission.

right, thats what i thought. but during orientation they said theres a slight chance...
basically i was told to take a bunch of upper div comm classes since im only missing two pre-reqs for the major, finish the pre-reqs, and then apply in spring. they said the number of spots that open up depend on how many people graduate from that major that year, and then they admit based on gpa, and obviously transfer students who have been admitted already are going to be on the bottom of the totem pole.

oh well.....if theres even a slight chance im going for it. thats how much i hate poli sci haha.

I checked my acceptance letter from last year, and it was dated 8/21/06. So... any day now! Good luck to everyone!

i'm not at home to get my letter...can someone post when they get it? thanks!

I just got my letter [or email rather] today.

If you got in, this is basically what it says:

There will be an orientation meeting with Christy Bliss, the Departmental Counselor, on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in 1200 Rolfe Hall. It is very important that you attend. At this information session, you will be completing an official Change of Major form.
Please note: Your major will not be officially changed to Communication Studies until you have completed and turned in the Change of Major form.

You will also be given important information regarding "Double Majors", opportunities available to you, and an explanation of the Department requirements. You will have an opportunity to ask questions about the Communication Studies curriculum and its function in completing your Bachelor of Arts Degree.

If you are currently participating in EAP, or will be away in the Fall Quarter of 2007, please schedule a meeting with Christy Bliss when you return so she can help you process the Change of Major form. Christy can be reached at: cbliss@ucla.edu

christy bliss and jane are freaking awesome.

just saying.

lol, Jane Bitar... just wait, if you become a comm major, she'll flood your inbox with "internship opportunities"

Yeah, Christy is pretty nice. And you'll get an email from Jane at least 3x a week, haha.

Sweet! Sounds great! I got my e-mail too. Thank god... I already signed up Comm. Studies 10 and another upperdiv... not to mention I'm practically done with my Mass Comm classes.

i decided over the summer that i wanted to double major in comm studies, (along with psychology) and am now thoroughly confused on what i should do. should i try to fill the prereqs or should i try to fill the upper divs right now (in order to get the best shot at being accepted into the major?)

i'm a second year at ucla, almost finished with my prereqs for psychology. i basically don't have any of the prereqs or any of the classes done for comm, (i took psych10 at a community college a couple years ago and got credit for that, but they dont consider transfered credits while looking at u for the major)-- basically... advice anyone? i just read that comm has to be ur first major....=/ uh oh.

oh ****, and classes are filling up fast :(

the comm studies department is playing mind games with me. about a week ago i got two emails from them saying i wasn't accepted (2! way to rub it in) and then yesterday i got another email saying i was accepted. weird, huh? oh well, all that matters is that in the end they accepted me.
