i decided over the summer that i wanted to double major in comm studies, (along with psychology) and am now thoroughly confused on what i should do. should i try to fill the prereqs or should i try to fill the upper divs right now (in order to get the best shot at being accepted into the major?) people have said that its rare that people who are declared in another major will get into comm studies...i'm not declared as psych but i AM pre-psych. i have to apply into both majors this spring.

i'm a second year at ucla, almost finished with my prereqs for psychology. i basically don't have any of the prereqs or any of the classes done for comm, (i took psych10 at a community college a couple years ago and got credit for that, but they dont consider transfered credits while looking at u for the major)-- basically... advice anyone?

well, is there any overlap between comm and your psych major firstly? hmm, perhaps sit in or look at comm syllabi before enrolling in your pre-reqs. figure out how many comm classes you need to apply or what gpa you need w/ whatever you have. talk to a comm/psych advisor about 2x majoring

I came in as a transfer student last year and wanted into Comm like you. I was advised by Christy Bliss to maintain a high GPA (3.7+) and just take upper-div classes that overlapped with my other major, political science. I didn't do any pre-reqs other than PSYCH 10 from AP credit, PS40, and Speech 1 (now Comm St 1). I did about 4-5 upper div mass comm classes too with only one not counting for pol sci. I believe as long as you feasibly have the unit cap (mine was 256 and I have like 137.5 right now) and have a decent GPA you shouldn't have a problem. But really, don't take Comm classes recklessly that don't count for Psych. Just keep going with Psych and take classes that overlap.
