Can I walk in June next year if I'm planning to graduate in fall 2010?
I talked to a counselor today and he said I need to do a petition. Anyone know how this works?
Also I didn't the counselor was very sure wheb he answered me.
Thanks!

Yes, it’s possible more information should be available in spring quarter. Did you ask a Murphy counselor or your departmental counselor? Graduation is done by departments, so your department counselor should have all the information.

Yeah, the petition that he is talking about is the SIP (special inclusion petition). You can fill that out online, I believe, through myucla, or you can turn in a paper copy.

Fall graduates can definitely walk in June of that year. I heard the petition process was mostly a procedural thing, and your petition will be approved if you meet all the requirements (units, etc). However, if you don’t want to go through that, you can temporarily change your expected graduation date to summer 2010 to be automatically included in the commencement ceremonies and then change it back to fall 2010 afterward.
