Commended Question

Hey,

So I'm wondering, commended letters ARE distributed through the schools, right? My problem is, I know I was commended (currently a senior) since I got that "top 50,000" letter last spring. My guidance counselor also confirmed that I was commended (she has the list of commended students from my school). However, it is now March, and I STILL haven't received my letter, and other commended kids at my school got them in October. Since my counselor isn't responsible for these things, she directed me to administration, who literally had no idea what I was talking about.

Has this ever happened to anyone here? Frankly, I don't really care about the letter. My only concern is that I wrote I was commended on my college applications, and I'm afraid they'll ask me to verify it. I actually know someone who had this happen to him; one of his colleges asked him to verify that he was commended AFTER they had accepted him. In the rather unlikely event that they do decide to investigate me, I just don't want to risk giving them the impression that I was being dishonest. Otherwise, I wouldn't even bother with this.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

During the week, call NMC and ask about your letter…

Nat’l Merit Corp 847-866-5100

That happened to my son and yes, he DID need the letter for several schools he applied to. We called NMC and they were VERY nice about it. In my son’s case, the school that was suppose to notify him (he’s homeschooled) never did. They denied getting anything from National Merit. National Merit just sent us the letter to our home and everything worked out great. Good luck.

I see. I will definitely call them. Thanks for the replies!
