So no one knows what the score for a National Hispanic Scholar is on the PSAT for Texas? What about Commended National Merit Scholar for Texas?

bump bu

mp

Not sure about National Hispanic Scholar, but the cutoff for commended is 202.

bump for the 2nd time.

Commended for Texas?

Commended is done nationally and is not seperated by states like the National Merit cutoff is. And I think it's 202 as well.

:)

What I meant was is there a cutoff for Hispanic

Yes there is....

I'm not too sure 188, maybe?

So basically if you're >= 190...you get it?

The cut off was 186 last year in New York.

When do the commended scholars get notified?

Anyone who got notified in the spring that they were in the top 50,000 students nationally on the PSAT, and who did not recently learn that they are a National Merit semifinalist is National Merit commended.

Indeed, your school has that info, but many schools decide to present those awards later in the year, such as at the end of the year awards ceremony.

You can, though, list "NM Commended student" on your college applications because that is what you are.

I don't know when National Hispanic commended students get notified, but I imagine the schools find out the same time that they learn about National Hispanic scholars.

bump! is the way to go!

Why is the cutoff so low?

The 188-190 I think was for Hispanic...

the 202 was for commended....Meaning, you aren't a National Merit Semifinalist but you are given some recognition.

Otherwise, cutoffs vary from state to state. (Mass: 222 (?) Arkansas: 206)

Sidenote, you can't get any of the awards if you repeat a grade. I went to boarding school and repeated tenth grade and received a 230 and didn't get ****.

When do they let all the commended scholars know that they are actually commended?
I got a letter in the spring about being a heigh scorer but I have not recieved any letter since. My score was 209 so it is above the national cut off. Can i just assume i'm commended then?

You could probably do that cause the commended cutoff definitely isnt 209+ and 209 is lower than the CT cutoff for NMSF.

:)
