Does being Commended provide anything other than the title?

Some colleges give scholarships for commended students. If you check the CC archives, I posted a list of some about a year ago. One is St. Olaf, a good LAC, in Minn.

Some colleges may give commended students preference for admissions and merit aid. These won't be colleges like HPYS, which don't even do that for NMS, but it may occur at places like some public universities (including some flagship ones), and some good private universities.

Commended also may help you get chosen for local scholarships and other honors. Just make sure to explain on your application what "commended" means.

Certainly include commended as an honor on all of your scholarship and admissions applications.

what does commended mean?

It's a level below Semifinalist. Does anyone know when they're going to notify the commended tudents?

Didn't they already do so back in April?

The high schools already know because anyone who was in the top 50,000 on the junior year PSAT, but didn't make semifinalist is commended. Some high schools give the commended certificates in the fall. Others save them until the spring awards ceremonies.

If you were in the top 50,000, but are not a semifinalist, that means that you are NM commended, and you can put that on your college applications.

I'm not sure if I'm in the top 50K, but I got a 207 so I think I got a shot.

The top 50,000 usually are 201 and above. It's almost certain that with a 207 (which actually is NM in some states), you're commended. Your school should have gotten a letter to give you in the spring asking you to name 2 colleges for College Board to notify that you were in the top 50,000. It's too late for that now, unfortunately as the deadline was in the spring.

Yeah, I got that letter

commended cutoff is nation-wide (as opposed to the NMSF scores, which vary by state.) The commended cutoff is 203 for this year's group of seniors.
