There ARE user levels for post counts… but I’m pretty sure we won’t name them after individual schools. All we need are “which is the best Ivy” type arguments about which member is more senior!
What are the user levels?
then just use groups of schools. safety, match, state, reach, ivy, top 25.
I was hoping to see a spell check feature.
Yea… what are the levels?
nvm… figured it out.
I’m a Junior Member now… so it must go on like that to Senior Member etc.
Another thing that would be nice is the “who’s online” feature.
not “who’s online”, please! I would feel stalked.
hmmmmm
is status based on number of posts?
i wonder how many it takes for each level
Hey, I think the forum is excellent. Better than the old one++;
BUT PLEASE PUT UP THE OLD AP WARNING IN THE TESTING SECTION SO THAT A FEW YEARS FROM NOW WE DON’T HAVE REPEAT MISTAKES.
Glowinggamy, how would you feel stalked?
Also: We have a new vBulletin. WHY OH WHY CAN WE NOT QUOTE PEOPLE!?!?!? That makes no sense. Mr. Dooley, please turn the quote feature on!
Newt, we’ve streamlined the board for speed right now, and also to keep things fairly simple for the many members who have been using our old bare-bones forum. We’ll look at Who’s Online and other features as possible future additions.
The massive pages that developed on the old forum were an issue for everyone, but in particular members with slow connections - we wanted our new forum to be zippy for all.
This baby is the sheez. Viva CC 2.0!
whoa yea scorp
thats a good catch
Wow, streamlined. I like your philosophy, keep it simple. Some people (like myself) have to live with 56gay, you know—it’s significantly cheaper. Good to take all users into consideration.
Auto quoting isn’t on - if you feel obliged to quote, do a quick copy & paste. I’ve seen a ton of forums, and when quoting is automatic many users fail to delete the quote even when there’s no need to include it in their post. This makes threads bulky, harder to read, and slower to load.
We’ll get the AP post up, scorp…
Noone likes change, and I am not the biggest fan of the new fourm. I absolutely HATE having to click on next to go to posts that are in a long fourm. I would prefer to have them all on the same page. Is there an option for this? I do like the fact that it is way easier to post on this style of fourm. But this always begs the question? What was wrong with the old fourm?
How do we get to the old forum posts or is that not possible? I mean there is good stuff there and some is very recent. Also there is a 30 part thread for musical theater.
Can you explain how to look at old threads on any of the old forums or is this starting from scratch?
Susan
yea i agree with joev - there should be an option to see the whole thread together. i think the faq or something said that the old ones loaded to slow for ppl with dialup
soozie - i dont know about you, but www.collegeconfidential.com/discus takes me back to the old forum, and i can see all the old stuff but can’t post anymore.
overall, i like this much better, it has a fresher, cleaner look and is much faster. and mr. dooney, if you’re ever looking for mods i like to exercise my authority
JoeV: You can set the number of posts per page to 40 on the Control Panel; don’t think there’s an ‘unlimited’ option. Maybe the mods could make it unlimited by default and have users with problematic connections change it on their own…? I’m personally partial to the old ‘one-page-topic’ layout, but I’d rather people be able to read the topics than my own eccentric preferences be satiated.
Soozievt: Just hit up http://www.collegeconfidential.com/discus/. I have to admit that I haven’t been to CC’s home page in weeks–well, until I went just now to verify that they’re redirecting all of us here.
Personally, I think the new forum is alright enough. The biggest disappointment for me is that the display’s resolution-specific: that is, I’m running on 1024x768 and I have all this 'blue’space on either side of the thread’s body that’s going to waste… that didn’t back on Discus. I’m also going to agree with the previous poster who said that they thought this format might promote an increased focus on people and massive amounts of posting, and less on actually giving good information.
But hey, it’s not bad. If this helps bring more people in, I won’t complain.
