Comments on New Forum

does the lighted up CC sign mean that the user/forum is active/has people in it?

The yellow “on” light in the forum listings means that a forum has new posts in it. Next to a member’s name, it means that the member is currently online. (A member can set “invisible” mode in the Control Panel so that the online status doesn’t show.)

Roger,

I still disagree, although you have a point with bandwidth. I don’t believe senseless quoting of entire posts would fly here at CC (1) because it’s a community full of concerned, intelligent people and (2) you could even make an announcement about supererogatory quoting if it persists for a few weeks. I’m sure people would listen–but if not, you could always turn it off again.

A lot more TABLE tags will be nested qith quotes, however, resulting in more cumbersome code.

Why not try it out for a week and see what comes of it? CC paid heftily for this board’s license: at least use its basic functions.

In the coming months, we’ll be changing some features. We’ll take your suggestion under advisement, sodfather.

Just wondering, whats the purpose of the rule that you can only do one search every 30 seconds?

Searches are very server-intensive, so we want to be sure that we have enough resources for all of our members and visitors. As we evaluate server performance under full load, we may adjust this.

How about some permanent threads-- really visible, maybe in a “sticky” area like FAQs-- on merit aid and definitions of safety/match/reach schools? Lots of questions about those recently. We keep reinventing the wheel.

Not to mention a link to that yearly survey from China. That would save CC a few megabytes in bandwidth each month.

What is important to me is to have a way to determine if my posts have been replied to without going to the thread to see if there were any replies. For example, I have posted verious posts in the alphabetical listing of colleges. There are no numbers or dates of the last post next to any of these college threads. I would strongly advise that you put both the date of the last post next to each college thread and the number of posts as you have with the CC top 25 schools.

University of the Pacific should be added to the college list, if someone gets the chance.

Maybe some kind of sticky thread about schools that give full or almost full rides for NM. We seem to get that once a week or so.

taxguy-Make sure you turn on the preference that automatically subscribes you to threads you post in, then go to My Control Panel to see which threads have been replied to. MUCH easier than the old CC, IMHO.
