Pre-Econ. Top choices are the shorties.
I am bringing a car and I wanna see the parking situation in september and not pay 650$ upfront.
Who else is bringing a car? What are your plans for parking?

heartcookie Im environmental studies too:) Anyone know what the official facebook page for our class is?

Andrey, you should probably just leave your car at home. I was going to bring mine, then I went on a campus tour and the tour guide said cars really aren’t necessary, because everything is within biking distance. Plus parking is limited and super expensive.

Nicky, I understand that, however I live in O.C. and occasional trip home would be nice and my cousin goes to Santa Monica CC (he doesn’t have a car but wants to hang out). I enjoy climbing and mountains just north of SB are perfect for that. Plus I am an avid snowboarder and there is now way you can get anywhere without a car (I am aware of UCSB snow team). Also being confined to small town of SB and the campus just seems depressing since there is such a large world out there.

Would you agree that having a car is a HUGE plus in my case?

I studied in England for 5 years and lived on campus in a town called Blackpool (almost the same size as SB). I can tell you that being confined to such boundaries for a long time gets depressing and limits you weekend opportunities.

Well, you can take a train home and they have a free bus system to take you around. The parking is like a 10 minute walk from campus, so that would seem like an inconvenience.

Bring it if you really want to, but I just don’t think it would be necessary because everything you need is so close to campus.

10 minute walk = 3 minute longboard ride.
I am sorry for long messages, I am guessing the length is precisely the reason you have not read anything I wrote. TO SUM UP: Pretty much everything I am going to on weekends and sport-wise requires a car.
Everything you ‘need’ is food, classes and a place to sleep obviously for which you do not need a damn car. And yes, parties and the beach are reachable without it too.

Soooooo anyone out there bringing a car too? If so what are your parking plans?

I’m doing Pre-Biology at UCSB. I’m probably going to stay at Manzanita or Santa Rosa any suggestions anyone?

I would also love to have a car there, but since i’m international I don’t have it yet and im just planning on getting one. I guess i’ll have to see the situation out there and decide whether I really need it or not. I am so dependent on my car where I live that it is hard for me to imagine living without it lol.

Majoring in Pre-Econ. I’m not sure whether to bring a car or not either. I don’t want to pay the $650.

What is the minimum GPA you should maintain in order not to get revoke by UCSB?/??

UCSBFreshman, if you live in FT, there is residence hall parking available. Not sure how much it costs but will not be anywhere near as much as $650.
Also pre-econ here. What hall are you planning to live in?

@AndreyB do you longboard? If so we should bomb some hills when we get to UCSB
And any other longboarders coming this fall?

Hell yeah I do! Though I am not very skilled. Add me. Are you in FT next year?

Look at the first item on your “Steps to Enrollment” page–your conditions of admission. You need to keep your grades at “C” or better, and maintain a weighted 3.0 average. So if you got a “D” in any academic courses in fall semester or it looks like you will have that happen this semester, talk to the office of admissions right away. Keep an eye on your GPA for senior year, too. The key is to call them with any changes, promptly. That gives you a chance to explain what happened, ask if there’s anything you can do to compensate (or tell what you are doing about it)…like taking a summer CC class or (if you can afford it) signing up for FSSP. And try not to panic…what’s important is to be up-front. I know a UCB engineering student who actually dropped out of his senior-year calc class (so never even got a grade), wrote to the university admissions office and let them know, and he was admitted & is still doing fine there.

And considering you didn’t know that one…do go through the whole checklist on your conditions. Make sure you request your transcripts to get sent and take the darn Writing test if you need to…lots of students run into issues when trying to register for classes because they forgot to do those things.

I can’t decide between anacapa and ft. and just added you
