I committed to a large public school a few weeks ago. I’m an oos student and I received generous amounts of financial aid. However, I found out this morning that my tuition increased by nearly $7k (i’m not sure why or how). Originally, I was satisfied with my tuition estimate and planned to attend bc of the financial aid, but now I’m very frustrated and I’m going to call them on May 1st (their fin. aid office isn’t open over the weekend). I want to find out if this is a mistake. IF by chance they don’t fix my tuition, am I allowed to rescind my commitment to the large public school and commit elsewhere ON may 1st?
Yes. But you may lose your deposit at school #1.
You can even do it after May 1 if the other school still has room. Do not make a financial decision that will cost you thousands of dollars over 4 years if you still have other choices. Call the school, find out about the $7000 increase, call the other school and see what your options are.
