Hey guys ,
Just had a question about community service for my app, does it look really good if i have around a thousand hours of community service on my app (its actual meaningful service, not the typical bs library stuff)

its around 600 hours or so from the the four summers tutoring kids at my former elementary school (including teaching a Burmanese kid named Marco how to read)

around 400 hours or so for volunteering at my local sunday school for the past four years every sunday

the reason they're meaningful is that i plan to be a doctor and give free treatment at my own clinic(hopefully) and this ties in with that, also, i'm the president of my muslim club at my school.

so does this look good, or do hundreds of other kids have the same thing?

It doesn’t really matter if hundreds others have done the same, as long as you show how you have grown individually from it, and where it has led you in your life. Also, I am sure everyones story slightly differs, and your inspiration to give free treatment is a much different result than many may have had.

The substance of what you’ve done is infinitely more important than the amount of time you’ve put into it - I centered my application essay on a community service program that I participated in that I put around 20 hours into during one part of my sophomore year, but that had a profound impact on my worldview. Since I was accepted, I’m going to guess that my essay was a hit - or at least didn’t suck. If your community service meant something to you, find a way to show that - otherwise, it’s just another number on your application.
