How much do you think you use every semester? Do you think you need it at all? Is having $0 on the card fine?

well, since you can rollover the amount after each sememster until you graduate (and they give you all the money left in your account too), why wouldn't you want some money in your account? $0 is fine though.

I want to ask how much money students usually spend during the semester? Is there many activities or festivals in the university that encourages spending some money on it?
Putting in excessive amount of money won't help me even though I will get it after four years.

Well, one thing I use my Card for constantly is getting snacks and drinks out of vending machines and doing laundry. Beats the hell out of carrying about change all the time.

feenotype, you go to vanderbilt? what year are you in?

Oh the laundry machine take card instead of quarters?? Thats a surprise.
I changed my mind. I might put more than I planned. I don't want to think about trying to get hold of several quarters to have my clothes clean.

I'm a sophomore. I've been taken a semester or two off since January, so I've been out of touch with things up in Nashville, but I should be heading back in the fall.

yhk, you can also use the Card for purchases at the bookstore, varsity markets, and even the post office. I mean, it just so very useful to have money on your Card (I guess "Commodore Cash" is what they're calling it now)

Weren't they trying out a program to use the Card at off-campus businesses in the spring?

Yes, I think there are few places outside that accept the card.(about 10)

My concern (as a parent) is that if the card is lost/stolen, the student is responsible for $500 if someone uses the card. I suppose that could only be done quickly at the bookstore, but it's a much worse deal than a credit card ($50) limit of liability.

The card has your ID on it. I used to work at the bookstore, and I almost always checked the photo for especially large purchases (more than $100). But also, that card is your lifeline on campus. If you misplace it, you'll notice quickly and you report it lost immediately at http://thecard.vanderbilt.edu/
