It has come to my attention that our use of certain abbreviations can cause confusion between new members and those of us who have been around for a while. It can take quite a while for the new folk to pick up on some of these, so I thought I would start a thread that collected as many as we can collectively think of. I will start the list with just a couple of entries in hopes that others will add to it and eventually make this thread particularly useful for our newest members.

CC = College Confidential, the site that hosts this Forum
VP = Vocal Performance or Voice Performance

BOCO = Boston Conservatory, sometimes seen as BoCo
CC = College Confidential, the site that hosts this Forum

VP = Vocal Performance or Voice Performance

Note that some of these are used throughout CC (e.g. CC, D, DD, DS, EA, ED, RD, S) while others are most frequently seen in the Music Majors and perhaps Musical Theater sections.

I love it that you will now have something new to alphabetize!

A couple other generic ones: PM = personal message, TA = Teaching assistant (usually a graduate student). H or DH and W or DW - husband and wife.

Also, CC sometimes means community college, and must be taken in context.

I would like those who are comfortable cutting and pasting to add their entries directly to the list, rather than giving me something new to alphabetize, but I am also happy to insert things as they come up.

Loosen up. Either you just made it to first base with an opportunity to take second, or you are still at bat with the odds decidedly in your favor. While my standards aren’t exactly hanging from the rafters, I’ll have you know that my puns neither desire nor merit anyone’s comeuppance.

If it’s just a picture you want, there are plenty of sites where that can be arranged. mlb.com for starters.

So as not to allow our superfluous badinage to obfuscate the original purpose of this thread, I’ve added an abbreviation below. Come to think of it, strike the superfluous part. If we tried to steal second at our age we’d need every badinage we could come up with and a visit to the chiropractor to boot.

Hey, “Dads”, I’d tell you both to go and take a “time out” if only I could stop laughing! And musica, your quick response was wonderful! I have to come here for my daily giggle…!

Sorry, there are no time outs in baseball, only coaching visits to the mound. (EDIT: Before violadad chimes back in, that one was purely unintentional. Let’s see you produce a baseball metaphor entirely devoid of possible double entendres.)

Striving for foolish consistency…
