On the common app NJIT asks “Please list the number of science, mathematics and computer science courses you have taken in high school, the level (Advanced Placement, Honors, College Prep) and the grades you have received.” It only lets you list 5 courses but the drop down has 7 subjects. My son has taken all 7 subjects so he does not know how to do this! Has anyone else encountered this and what did you do? Tried calling admissions but too busy so he emailed his admission counselor. It has been 8 days and no response. He tried emailing general admissions and is on day 3 with no response. Any suggestions??
I put the courses I believed would look the best;for example, I put in all of the AP classes that I thought would seem valuable for my major (Calculus, Physics, CompSci). You also need to realize that NJIT will receive a transcript with all his course, so either way they will see all of them.
Yes, that makes sense. The problem is that the courses that look best are what he’s taking now. He is taking his senior year courses at a local community college, so choosing between AP, Honors or College Prep doesn’t make sense. Ultimately if we don’t hear back from NJIT he will have to just list the 5 he took already and the 2 in progress at the county college will just show on his transcript. So annoying, I have no idea why they have it this way!
My son picked the top 5. They get transcripts as well so I have no idea why they even ask this question. He was accepted literally two days after applying…they are pretty efficient over there!
Finally heard from the admissions counselor and he said not to worry about it. He said it didn’t matter because they would see the transcript anyway. Annoying because he would have sent in his application sooner but we were waiting to hear back. Oh well, we’ll see what happens! @Quantify how did he get his decision? Congrats!
@actkid he got an email. I have to say, it was the least exciting email I’ve ever seen. Just an excel table that listed the dates they received all the materials. in the middle was an entry “status”, and in the next column it said “admitted”. You can also go on the website and request a status email (there is no “portal”).
@Quantify Haha ok thanks!
