I'm having difficulty with the activities essay. All the directions say is to "elaborate on one of your activities", but I'm not exactly sure what that means. Right now I'm talking about how developing asthma forced me to re-evaluate and concretely define what I love and enjoy about my activity (swimming). Is this on the right path, or should it be more straightforward and just focus on listing (sort of)what I do like about swimming? I feel like the process of figuring out what I love is really important to my swimming experience, but it's hard to articulate all that in under 150 words and I'm not sure if that's what admissions is looking for in this essay.

I'm struggling with the same problem, I listed out everything I wanted to say and ended up with 1000+ words. I think the main thing is finding a topic that you can structure to fit the word limit - and if your topic won't let you do it, might have to find another topic.

I wondered about that question too. I may not be right in saying this, but if it helps, I just took the prompt at face value. I considered it less of an "essay" and more of a "short answer," because really, 150 words does not a substantial essay make. bananapancakes, I think your topic sounds like a very solid one, and I'm sure it's possible to get it under 150 words (it might just take a really long time, and you'll probably have to cut portions of the response that you were in love with). Good luck!
