common app activities- help me

Ok so on the common app where you list your extra curriculars, there is not much space to elaborate... just enough to give like a brief descriprion.... and when i filled it out i feel that it looked kind of sloppy and unimpressive. my college counselor mentioned something about attaching a resume... do you think thats a good idea? because then you can go into more detail... would it be weird though to just attach a resume under the "additional information" secton? is anyone else doing that or just using the normal activities form?

NO! Attaching additional information like the one your counselor recommends is not a good idea. Instead, use that space provided efficiently by abbreviating things.

Why not…? I guess details prolly can be your reflections on activities, instead of the contents of the activities themselve?

Many schools will just throw any attached resume out without even looking at it. They want to see you maximize use of the Common App activities section along with everyone else.

I disagree. The space for additional information is there for a reason. I would not attach a resume–most resumes of High School students are filled with fluff beyond a few things, I would merely elaborate on the activities you listed. There are some schools (like Columbia) where I think this is basically essential for non-nationally established clubs, as there is literally no room for explanation beyond the name. For example, if you say you are in Science Club, what does that actually mean? Nothing, unless you explain what it actually does.

ok thank you guys- so the general consensus is not to attach a resume but to possibly elaborate in the “additional information” section. A lot of my activities aren’t things you would understand simply by looking at the title, and i would like to explain some things, for example, why i only did the activities during some years and not others. so how would i go about talking about this in the additional information section? what would i say?
