Hi, Im a junior but have already started updating my Common App for the upcoming fall/winter. I have been weightlifting since I was a freshmen for 3-4 hours a week passionately. I haven't won any awards, havent joined the weight lifting club at school (as I dont agree with their method of training). Is it still viable to put this as a extra curricular? And would it be appropriate to write about this as the Extra curricular essay. This is one thing I really feel passionate about, more than any other extra curricular, but I have no proof or credential in this. Any advice?

Yes, of course you can include it! Lot of students have activities they are quite passionate about that are entirely “self taught.” It still qualifies as an extracurricular.

Thanks for your input dodgersmom. Its a huge relief. However, I feel writing about this activity in the extra curricular activity would make me look selfish as its not something I give back to the community. Wouldn’t this look bad?
