Building on @PurpleTitan’s post: UK unis are very, very focused. Be sure that you have read the course descriptions really, really carefully: for both those courses you will have very few choices in what classes you take- and those choices will be from a fairly short and narrow list of options. I am trying to think of who I know who would be equally happy studying law and finance in the UK, and have not come up with anybody yet- there must be some, and maybe you are one of them, but be sure you have done your homework on this.
An important part of your application is the Personal Satement (PS) in which you demonstrate your suitability for the course that you are applying to. That is more than just ‘I really like law & want to help people/make money/whatever’: it is showing some understanding of the field, usually referencing some outside (academic level) reading you have done, an internship, etc.
With a score over 700 there is absolutely no need to re-take the Lit subject test- your score is fine for any uni. Once you get over a 700 in Math 1, again no need to re-sit. Some students seem to think that the magic 800 will carry more weight with US or UK unis than a 750 (or 700, depending on the school)- but that will not be what makes the difference to your admission decision.
If all the unis you are applying to accept SAT subject tests, there is no point taking AP Lit - duplicates don’t count.
What is being said above about the personal statement cannot be emphasized enough. My daughter met with advisers from the chem department at both Durham and St. Andrews when we were visiting campuses in November. They had read her PS, referenced very specific things from the PS and knew why she wanted to study chemistry, her educational/research background in the subject and what she wanted to do after graduation. It can’t just be a vague statement of why you like the subject.
Wayyy too many tests. Focus on the ones you need.
Thanks for the advice guys. Do you recommend I go visit the universities? If so, which month is best?
Your SAT II scores put you in the Russell Group category so you can eliminate everything bar UCL/Kings/QMUL/Bristol/Birmingham/Aberdeen/St Andrews/Warwick. Imperial wont offer finance or law so you can eliminate that. Your next step is to decide Law or Finance… When visiting make sure the university’s are in session, St Andrews is a completely different place when the students are not in school.
@elguapo1
If that’s the case then I won’t apply to neither St Andrews or Imperial. It’s just a backup option. So, I’m set with law as my major. I live in Jordan and I wasn’t sure which months would be best to visit. Also, how long do you recommend I stay if I were to only explore universities in London.
@klocheckmaflo The other thing you might find useful is the UCAS search tool. If you go to their website you can search for a university by course, you might even find a Law&Finance course offered somewhere. Good luck.
Thanks so much, you’ve all been so helpful! I really appreciate it
