There isn't a spot on the common application to self report ap scores. Do you just let the adcoms read it on the transcript, or do you put them under academic achievements?

i put mine under additional info but i might change it to academic achievements. either one.

do you have to send in the official reports of the ap scores? costs an arm and a leg.

No, you only send the official scores after acceptance and you've decided to go there. And then you only send it if the school might give you credit for those courses. Otherwise, don't bother.

But if the scores were all 5's and 4's, that would increase my chances of admission, so I want to include them, I just don't know where

Academic achievements.

I think the quality of AP classes varies so widely, and so many students do not take the exam, that just having an AP class listed on the transcript does not count for a lot anymore. Your high school transcript probably will not include an AP score. Make sure the AP score is listed somewhere on the application if it is good.

Just an opinion here: my son's AP record was extremely good, so we did pay to have official transcripts sent to most of the schools he applied to, in particular those at which he was trying to get merit scholarships. I couldn't tell you whether or not it made a difference; scholarship committees are not prone to explaining their decisions to the public. However, his results were good, so I don't think it hurt. The expense was not a large part of the overall expense of the college search procedure.
