Common App Arts Suplement, Music help!

I want to send in an arts supplement to colleges, for piano and voice.
I've played piano, guitar, the trumpet, and baritone since I was 9 and I've played in many festivals on Long Island (where I live) for Baritone ( I switched from trumpet to treble cleff baritone in 9th grade because my school's symphonic band is very small and needed more baritone/euphonium players). I've played in various school concerts and ensemble groups for guitar and piano. I've played Lead Guitar in Jazz Band for 4 years and I'm an accompianist at my church (on Piano). Vocally I've never been great at classical music, I've done theater for 5 years and I tend to get lead or supporting roles for the male part. I love to sing popular, or indie acoustic kind of music I sing at "American Idol" -esque concerts and competitions and come out with some success. I've ran an a capella group at my school for a few years and I sing in a Jazz choir.

So my question is should I send in some pieces of my work accompanying myself to more "popular" or modern tunes. Nothing really classical, baroque, or romantic. Some of the music I've arranged myself in the form of medley's and mashups layered with me doing various accompianment (piano, baritone, guitar, drums, bass, etc) the same way Sam Tsui does it on Youtube if you know what I mean.

From what I've seen on youtube of a few common app arts supplements they seem to really focus on classical music, broadway, more how should I say "occidental" music and some avant garde here and there. I'm guessing those applicants are trying to show the college they are good enough and willing enough to participate in their bands and choruses and ensembles (you know for musicians who want to continue in music but not go to a conservatory). I just want to show that I love music, I'm good at it, I can express myself, and I want to continue with music at that school (maybe not in orchestra but things like a cappella groups, ensembles, and theather). I'm not planning to major in music but I plan to make it a signigicant part of my life in college and thereafter.

What do you think? A foolhardy endeavour? Should I bother sending it in? Would I seem like one of those applicants that are trying to hard to have a "hook"?

It depends on what kind of college you are applying to. My d included a performance of hers in her application to a small LAC that looks for quirky students, and they loved it.

yea i’m applying to LAC’s like Middlebury, Hamilton, Bucknell, and one big university Johns Hopkins
