common app = bad?

is it bad to use the common app + supplement for emory? emory sent info regarding a personalized app, but i already started the common app. & it will be a waste if i don't end up using it.

does using the common app impact the decision at all?

i think they probably prefer that you don't use the common app but i know people who have gotten in to emory using it so it probably doesn't have that much of an effect. If you have good scores, a difficult course load, and great recs and essays they aren't going to not let you in because you used a different application!

don't use the common app

wow, this is weird. its the first time ive heard of a college having a negative attitude towards students using the common app. does any1 actually have any real reasons to back that up. should i stop mid-application and redo everything on the emory app?

dommenge...why do you say that?

"Emory gladly accepts the Common Application, and it is given equal consideration with applications submitted on Emory's form." -the Emory admissions website

if youre applying ed2, dont use the common app....sure they say its regarded equally but its like showing emory you treat them the same as any ol' college by using it. when i was applying, my college counselor told me not to use the common app for that reason, that it looks better, like you really put more effort into, rather sending a xeroxed copy of that application everywhere, ya know? although i applied ed1, i filled out all my applications (like 12 i think) bc theyre basically all the same (the only ones i didnt do completely were rhodes--part 2 came too late and vandy--damn short answer stumped me)

do you think thats true for all colleges assuming that they have their own app also?

no this is bs, don't listen to these guys, use whatever form you want. Have you actually seen the Emory App? It's almost the same as the common app. I've been to an admissions session and they said whatever form you prefer is fine. The fact that you're applying ED2 is enough to show that you want to attend emory, whether or not you used the common app is irrelevant.

if you don't use the common app then that makes it that much harder for your teachers who have to redo your reccomendations each time...

dont use the common app???? why the hell do you think emory accepts the common app??? just for the heck of it. its pretty obvious that they give = consideration to any form of the app. i also thought that using the common app would tell colleges they weren't special, but my junior year i asked the college reps from harvard, georgetown, and duke whether using the common app looked bad, and they said absolutely not. they said they understand it eases the applicants troubles, and some schools like yale ONLY use the common app b/c its easier for both sides.
