I put my essay on common app and it changed my dash to a question mark, for example: …wind–shops… to …wind?shops… What do I do? Should I email them saying it was supposed to be a dash? I have only sent in one application so far, so anyone know how I can change it so that my future essays show up the way I want? Please help ASAP!
For the one sent, don;t worry. It sometimes does happen. Adcoms can read through. Only worry if a substantial piece goes missing.
@lookingforward should I email them at all?
Not for that, I’d say. It’s one small character. They can still get the point. And you save correspondence for great updates or the bigger issues. Plus, a question mark is a common insert when there’s a character glitch- think about it, we all see those online, often, and read right through them.
@lookingforward I have more than one glitch though. I have multiple in my common app and in my supplemental essays. Sorry to keep badgering you on this!
I would email the help at common app so you can fix it for your next submission
Refer to the above post.
This is not something to email admissions about. It’s very minor and AO’s to not have the luxury of time at this time of year.
Don’t use dashes.
@skieurope should he move this question to the Common App forum? Isn’t that where questions about glitches usually show up?
So moved. @lookingforward
