The Common App is asking for "current GPA, even if it may change later in the school year." I know my GPA from the end of 11th grade, and some of my friends say that they used their GPA from the end of 11th grade. Is it ok to use the 11th grade GPA?

I sent my counselor an email about my current GPA and class rank, but he hasn't responded yet. I don't know if I should just go ahead with my 11th grade GPA or wait for my counselor, since my GPA is higher this year than it was last year (more AP classes).

If you are currently a senior and applying now, you are supposed to give your GPA as of end of 11th grade (or end of summer school after junior year if you took a course during the summer) if you have not received your grades for the end of this semester yet (in other words don’t try to calculate in mid-term grades). Many colleges then require you to have your high school send a mid-year report by late Jan/early Feb which contains another transcript with your first semester grades.
