I have a bit of a situation, hoping someone can help me out with what to do.

Basically, I submitted my Dartmouth supplement, and now my commonapp is frozen. I have just realized, however, that the commonapp which is frozen has a few typos and is not updated with scores, and is also missing some information-needless to say, I do not want to submit it, but want to still apply to Dartmouth. Should I create a new account altogether?

Submitting only a supplement shouldn’t freeze the main part of the Common App, as I recall. Are you sure that it’s frozen and, if so, that you haven’t submitted it somewhere (if not to Dartmouth)?

I don’t believe you can make another version for Dartmouth and move them to a new version if you have already sent the supplement but you can try.

Alternatively, make a new version and fix everything you need to. If you cannot move Dartmouth call them and tell them you already sent your supplement but it is locked to a version that you have revised. Can you print out the common app (mind you it will say print preview on everypage) and snail mail it or fax it instead.

You can make a new version and move Dartmouth - the submitted Dartmouth supplement will be moved to the new version as well. The only time you cannot move a college to a different version of the Common App Online is if you have submitted the Common App Online to that college.

Actually, I had already submitted the commonapp to another school in the same version, so it has frozen and it won’t let me move Dartmouth to another version…

Print the entire application out blank with the supplement and fill it in by hand including re-doing your supplement. Call the school and explain that you are unable to revise your electronic copy so to please accept it by snail mail. The electronic supplement will just sit there without the eletronic application. It actually may not have gone anywhere.

My son mistakenly sent his Syracuse supp in Sept and did not do his application until Nov. I called the school to check something and they told me the supplement was dated as received the same date as the application even though the common app said the school had downloaded it in Sept, they really hadn’t.

Just do the whole thing by snail mail including the teacher recs, transcript etc.

Another alternative is to create a copy of your common app. You can do this because you have at least submitted somewhere. You can edit the 2nd version how you want and submit that new version to schools. You may have to re-start the Dartmouth supplement, so if this happens, just write the admission at Dartmouth and tell them your 2nd supplement is the official one, and you can print that out and send them the hardcopy if you want.

However, before you bring all this negative attention to your application, are you sure the errors you mention are worth stirring up your Dartmouth application? Some things you can just write to admissions and tell them any updates. For example, if you filled in the incorrect SAT date, don’t even bring that up. If your choice of major has changed, but you are still interested in the same general college, don’t bother to change anything. They know that not all freshman are absolutely sure about their major. If your stats are competitive and your leadership is strong, leave it be. Don’t draw negative attention to your ‘errors’ in your original application and supplement.

SnowflakeVT, I don’t know if it will let you add a college to a new version if it remains also on your old one. He would have to try. He indicated he wasn’t able to move it but if it works then he could stay doing it on line.

Ned, when you go to delete Dartmouth from version 1 will it let you because that is only where you can delete a college from version one to add to version 2? Sneaky how that “move college” feature is hidden this way.
