I wrote my essay regarding the, "Every student has a specific background..." topic. I'm writing my specifically about how my family and film influenced me, and how I want to dedicate my life to filmmaking. There are two schools that don't have programs for film- they have others that I'm looking at like English/Creative Writing, Photography, and New Media Studies. Is such a specific essay going to turn them off? Should I change the topic?

Write about what truly moves you. You sound like you are going to be easily off and running when pen hits the paper on your essay. You seem very passionate about your your love of film and desire to be a filmmaker. Speak from your heart without worrying about what will turn the reader on or off. Of course, avoid the obvious like profanity, topics that can be offensive and sloppy writing.

Just because you may be applying to a college without a film school, does not mean that you can’t and won’t produce films on your own. Your essay will tell the reader that you will be a creative member of the community who will potentially share this interest in film with his peers.

Good Luck!

I most definitely appreciate your kind words! I’ll continue with the essay I have currently. Thank you.
