Common App Essay Questions

I'm starting to brainstorm for my college essays, and the common app gives 5 topics, or a topic of your choice. My question is, do you think I am putting myself at a disadvantage if I don't choose the topic of my choice option?

I'm thinking of either doing the 4th option, "Describe a character in fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc.) that has had an influence on you, and explain that influence," or the 2nd option, "Discuss some issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you." Then theres always the topic of my choice.

do you think i would lose originality if i didn't do the topic of choice essay?

They have the topic of your choice option just in case your idea does not fit in any option. The options are there to help you get an idea, and you can still be very creative in any of the options. Just remember to write as yourself. Hope that helped.

You’re over thinking it. Just come across as real and as human, and honestly they will not care what option you choose.
