So I've just finished going over my Common App essay for about the 15th time, and this fat fella is still weighing in at about 830 words. My natural style is sort of naturally verbose, and this is especially germane to my topic (my finding myself as a nerd). I find myself grappling with a dilemma: do I cut down my essay, risking my artistic voice (yeah yeah, pretentious) or leave it as is, and risk the ire of those who read my essay? Is 830 words just beyond the pale? Any input would be appreciated; I know the rising hysteria as due dates approach must get tiring.

Cut it in half. Trust me, your artistic voice can be heard in less than 500 words.
