Common App Essay Topic: Acceptable?

Honestly, the best topic I can think for my essay (choice #1) would be the story of how I came out to my parents and friends.

"Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you."

Well, I think I've covered all four! :)

If I keep it professional (and not awkward), do you think I should submit it?

I'm going to all North-East schools, so I think I'm free from insane right-wing college app reviewers.

If done properly without insulting either political opinions, it sounds like an excellent topic.

Even if they’re all “liberal” schools, you shouldn’t assume that the essay readers are liberal as well.

That’s true, but Isn’t it illegal to be prejudice like that?
I’m making it more about getting to know yourself than gender identity, of course.

It’s not illegal, just frowned upon. Is it fair in the world of college admissions? Of course not. But admissions is a shady back-room deal operation. There’s no point in arguing over the justice of “my reader shouldn’t be biased” because you’ll never know why you are rejected, if you are rejected.

It depends on how you focus your essay. Try to keep it focused on letting the reader learn how you tick, what you like, personality, etc.
