<p>Hello,</p>

<p>I'm going to write my common app essay on a famous musician who has greatly influenced my life. I will be writing on how this musician's career and his works have influenced me and so on. The question is, would i put down on the common app as this essay pertaining to "Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe..." topic, or the one right below it- "Describe a character in fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc)that has had an influence on you, and explain..." topic?
Any advice would be appreciated.</p>

<p>I don’t think it matters much, but my read is that the first prompt is more for someone you know, the second for someone you idolize. </p>

<p>Just remember the essay is supposed to be about YOU not about the other person!</p>
