Common App Essay "Topic of Your Choice"

I'm writing my essay about my culture/diversity, but it doesnt exactly answer the diversity question because it doesnt answer this part "describe an experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community, or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you" So I chose to make it Topic of my choice, but would colleges look down on that? Like I"m writing about my diversity but I didn't choose to answer the prompt on it.. Should I change my essay a bit to make it answer the diversity question or does it not matter? Also, my college counselor said its not wise to use the topic of your choice prompt..

Any suggestions?

I don’t think there is anything wrong with using the “topic of your choice” prompt… my essay only slightly fits the “describe a person who influenced you” topic, and I’m not going to change what I think has come out as a good essay just to fit it to some arbitrary prompt. I honestly don’t think admissions officers care about the prompt.
