Common App Essay topic question, should I lay it on?

<p>Here is the Common App essay question.</p>

<p>Discuss some issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you. </p>

<p>I am applying to Binghampton for Engineering and I was thinking of starting off with the global energy crisis and then discussing the importance of Engineering and Engineers in order to solve this issue. </p>

<p>I was wondering if they would think I'm desperate/trying too hard or will they applaud the fact that I can see the connection.</p>

<p>Your thoughts?</p>
