Hey, I think I'm going to apply EA to princeton, so I've been trying to write an essay. Unfortuantely, i haven't been feeling very inspired to write this summer. Anyways, I wrote an essay for english this year (our teacher assigned it with the intention that we would hopefully use it to apply to college with). At first I didnt like it, but looking back, I think I do. The only problem is it is very light hearted and childish. It is well written ( I received a 96% on it). My question is, do you think a light hearted, childish common app essay is alright?

I would like to hear what anyone has to say about this. And thanks for reading this long post! If you have any questions please ask!

What’s the topic of the essay?

While “light-hearted & childish” may work at many schools, I would be a bit cautious about sending that type of essay to Princeton. While my experience is limited to a dozen or so successful applicants, I have seen “light-hearted and childish” work in a number of instances at Stanford and Harvard but not at Princeton. Note that you can create multiple versions of your common application with the only difference between the two versions being the essay. Check out the college essay websites for successful examples.

Be prepared that a successful Princeton application requires quite a bit of work, particularly if you have any weak areas on your record (scores or grades). If you aren’t keen on writing then you might want to consider other schools for Early Action.

thumzup, thanks for the info. I will definately try to make another essay that is a bit more serious. I love to write, it’s just that I find writing this essay stressful, like most people. Princeton is my top choice school and my scores arent the best, so I want to do everything I possibly can to give myself a better chance at being admitted.
