Do you think it’d be ok to (with a tiny bit of tweaking) use the common app essay (the “choose your own topic”) for the page 217 essay? Would Penn know?

And did anyone suck-up or anything by adding Penn into their page 217 essay?

And did anyone suck-up or anything by adding Penn into their page 217 essay?

I used my CommonApp essay for my page 217, I just had to change some things to make it more "bookish." It worked pretty well.

And I did not include Penn. To me, that seems a little presumptuous.

Cool - did anyone (or do you think anyone) has/will do anything cute like start in the middle of a "chapter" and then begin another "chapter"? I want to do something cute/original - but i doubt its possible to be original anymore....

Calidan - did you get into Penn?

Everyone does that (starting in the middle of something)...

some people have even started in the middle of the sentence (ie. and I saw my life flash by my very eyes. The rain was pouring...). That sort of thing.

I'm applying RD, so I haven't gotten into Penn (yet..hehe).

And I did start mine like it was in the middle of the book (i.e. at the top of the page I finished up the "previous" chapter, at the end of the page I started a "new" chapter. I did page numbers, too. :p

I'm sure that a lot of people have done this, though.

I think i'll do that. Not to be original or anything (cause I know its not), but to show that I put a "lot" of effort into this. Hahaha Thanks y'all

yeah i started mine in the middle of a sentence about some dorky-ass chemistry anecdote pertaining to tetrachlorooxymolybdate(obviously for humor). and i ended my pg 217 about physics.(good parralel struc.). apparently the people at adcom liked it enough to let me in. personally looking back, the core of the 217 essay was a little sappy and riddled with some weaknesses in prose. yeah people warn about reusing essays and how the adcom will magically recognize it and put it in to the "waitlist bin" , but i think if you camoflauge it well, you should be fine. and if you do a crappy job of camoflauging the common essay, maybe you shouldnt be at penn. JUST KIDDING.
