Question: is it possible to fill out the main Common App essay for one university, submit it, and then alter the CA essay for each subsequent school, so that each university gets both its specific supplements and a main essay that is specific to it? Or is that not allowed?

You can change the essay as many times as you want but I think it’s expected that you will write one general essay for all of your schools and get more specific in your supplements.
