Common App help

hello,
Im a rising senior and ive started working on my common app essay. i have an inital draft but its over the 650 words limit. i was wondering if anyone would be willing to read my essay and critique it and recomened how to shorten it. Thanks. Also, im a bit paranoid about plagarism so I will probably only PM to established editors on CC.(aka not someone with 2 posts)

I’m willing to critique it if you’d like but if you’re worried about plagiarism and my low post count, that’s fine. The only advice I could give now is just if one portion of an essay is less significant than the other and remove that if possible. If it’s a story where every detail is needed then just try to summarize it better. Good luck!

I love this kind of thing. Send it over

I’m an incoming freshman @ Vanderbilt

I don’t have much experience reading essays, but some general advice I could give you is to really go through and be tough on yourself with each sentence: Is this necessary? What does it add to the essay? If the answer is “not really anything”, cut it.

Yeah I’d love to read it! I’ve written mine too, the rough draft obviously, and if you could read mine as well that would be great:) also there is a website called course hero that you can submit it too and a person will proofread it for like grammar stuff. - I would wait to do this until your final draft because it isn’t super cheap!

I’ve been having the same problem with some of my rough drafts as well but I figured out how to shorten mine down a bit. If you’re still looking for readers, I’d love to help!

I’d be happy to take a stab at it (literally and figuratively).
