Common App Nightmare

<p>My son cannot create an account for the Common App Online. He originally, successfully created one and registered in June 2012. But as you may know, all accounts reset after August 1st 2012. The instructions require students to create a new account after August 1, 2012. However, when he attempts to do this, the Common App Online sends a message that "a duplicate account with same name, date of birth and ZIP already exists". This is a huge dilemma because he is trying to apply ED and EA. Tech support is only available via email and quite truthfully, pretty useless as it is automated and just directs users to FAQ's. Can anyone help? I would hate to think of having no access to the Common App and Supplements etc. Thanks!</p>

<p>Can he create a new account with a slight alteration to his name, e.g. using a middle initial or misspelling his middle name? It appears the name section on the CA can be changed back to the proper spelling during the application process so it might be worth trying.</p>

<p>I actually think my son’s still stayed “live” from before that date.</p>

<p>Try creatign an account with a different zip code. If it lets you create the account, then change the zip code back. I assume zip code is not a fixed field after you create the account.</p>
