I have a question regarding the personal information part of the Common App. My parents live in different countries, and both of them have jobs (therefore their own incomes). I currently live with my dad and he is the parents supporting me and financing my needs. However, on paper they are still married. The Common App gives an option of choosing one’s parents’ status as “separated”. I’m not exactly sure as to what having separated parents entail, but I chose it anyway out of anger when I had a blowout fight with my mom (I have been told to cease all contact with her and block her on every social media platform), I selected “separated” on the application, and I have submitted my apps for ED/EA already. If I should have chosen the “married option”, will colleges rescind my application? Should I contact them? I am very scared right now and unsure about what to do.
What you described sounds to me like the precise legal definition of ‘separated’. I think that you have to live under a different roof for a set amount of time, which is different in different states. How long has it been since they shared living quarters? What state do you live in?
You’re probably OK.
