I'm looking at the common application essay choices, and considering choosing option 1 which is:
"Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you."

I'm considering writing about when I skipped 9 grade I would discuss the impact on me portion of it with the decision I made to skip a grade, and how i become a better student because of this experience
Advice?

My advice is to pick the “choose your own topic”. If you choose any of the other options it is just like conforming to a thesis. You will be held to it. If you deviate from the question or don’t answer it completely you could really hinder your application. But with the choose your own topic option you can freely write an amazing essay about an amazing experience without constantly going back to the question and making sure you answered it.

Just my opinion though :)

Not necessarily. I was initially planning to do an essay with a topic of my choice. So I did and when deciding which “essay topic” to choose, I noticed my essay fell under Q1. SO I chose that one.

And I got into the school of my choice. just saying.

I think you should go for it!

Overachiever: You do have a point.

Maybe try writing the essay first without the topic restriction and if it falls under one of the topics then great and if not then that works too.

thanks everyone for the advice … i first started with write your own topic and then found that it all link back to the experience question so i figured that i do that
