For the first language section, my friend put Korean because he learned it first. He was born in the US, went to school in the US, etc..now he is panicking because he doesn't know if colleges will require a TOEFL..he obviously does not need to take it since he went to school in the US..should he alert colleges about this?

bump...........

bump...............

How in the hell did he learn Korean before English, while the fact is he was born and raised here? Either way, your friend shouldn't have to worry as colleges usually don't require TOEFL test for non-international students.

he learned Korean first at home..before he went to school..

I had a similar problem. I applied to all my schools saying that my first language is Japanese and my citizenship is Japanese. I have a green card so I am applying as a permanent resident however.

Though the colleges say that if your first language is not English you have to take the TOEFL, my guidance counselor said that with decent Verbal scores on the SATI, there's no need to worry about that. (By the way, I had a 740) I think a decent score meant over 600. If lower than 600, I think he should hurry and take the TOEFL.
