Common app question

First off, I am a junior. Does the common app have just one essay question? When can I start working on it? Will the question change or is it always the same question each year? Also, when do colleges release the essay question that they want you to answer specifically about them?

Thank you for starting this thread. Have the same questions as the poster above.

Quote from one of the UPENN acceptance thread posts

<<<<<<Subjective:

Essays: I like my essays a lot. Main commonapp one about professional wrestling, another about family heritage, and a third about my research interests and where I want to take them. >>>>>>>>>>>>

How many essays does the common app have? The quote above states 3 essays? Is that correct - I was under the impression common app needs only 1 essay.

Help appreciated.

^Right. The common app itself has one short answer and one personal statement. However, many colleges also have “supplements,” which is essentially a personalized add-on for that school. Supplements may contain additional essay prompts, tailored to specific colleges.
