Common App Question

Hi Everyone,

As I was filling out the Activities portion of the Common Application it asks after every activity that you answer "timing of participation". It gives you three options; "School", "Break", and "Year". Could anyone explain what these three different answers mean? I asked my school counselor about this and he was also confused on which I should put for some of my activities and what the actual definition provided from the Common App is for each of these times.

Thank you.

I don’t know if I’m right, but my interpretation is

School = during the school year
Break = during the summer
Year = both

I interpreted them as:

School - during the school year and through school
Break - summers and holiday breaks like spring vacation for mission projects, etc.
Year - regular participation whether school is in session or not.
