For schools that use the common app teacher reccomendation section, what years of one's highschool career can be considered acceptable to use. My GC told me that many times schools want reccs from the junior or senior year, but I do not see any preference made on the individual schools' websites.

For example, I had a teacher my soph. year that I feel could right me a very good reccomendation. Will I be hurt in the admissions process if I decide to use it?

My S asked his 10th grade social studies teacher for a rec because she could speak to his essay writing abilities in a way his AP teachers could not. But you should have the other rec from an 11th or 12th grade teacher.

My daughter had one of her 10th grade teachers write a recommendation, but she checked with the colleges first to see if it was acceptable. They allowed it, so long as her second recommendation was from a more current teacher.

Although it may not say so on the website, sometimes the application instructions mention a preference for a "current" teacher rec. I'm guessing that they find it odd if a student has to reach back too far to find a good recommender.
