Common App questions...

Ok well I originally had my teachers send in reccomendations to all nine of my schoos in a large yellow(non folded) envelope. All were sent in a timely fashion. Now I realize that the common application has their own little reccomendation sheet. Is it mandatory that I use this? I would feel bad having my teachers resubmit these.

Also, I just got my ACT scores back. I got a 31. I'm a black URM with a 3.93 with a rigorous schedule. I have schools such as Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech on my list. Am I selling myself short? No analysis required but maybe an instinctive yes or no?

My impression is that you DO need that form, because it asks questions about student's integrity, etc., etc. I don't think it would take you out of the running, necessarily, but I wouldn't want to give schools any reason to reject me.

My instinct says that you have a fair shot at an Ivy-level school. If there's one that you're really interested in, worst case scenario you have a reach. But you should focus more on what schools you like than status.

Well I think that I will apply to Duke, Stanford, and Berkeley as reaches. University of Virginia(instate), Vanderbilt, and Georgia Tech will be my matches, and Clemson, JMU and VT will be my safeties.

Back on topic....will sending the form in after the actual reccomendation has been sent in be fine? I'm sure they wouldn't mind filling one sheet out, copying it 8 times, and then mailing.

My d called the various schools she was applying to because one of her teachers didn't fill out the form. They all said don't worry about it. They cared about what the teacher said, not whether it was on a proper form.

Ok, thanks! Even though I'm not as worried now thanks to you, I may have them do it anyways just so it's one less thing to be worried about. Also, does it matter if reccomendations are folded?

It only matters if the school specifically asked for a large envelope (like Stanford does).
