One of my teachers and my counselor are being really slow getting in my recommendations.. They still have not yet submitted my recommendations yet. With only 24 hours till the deadline I am getting really concerned seeing as my counselor was supposed to submit his recommendation over the break!

Will my application or decision I get be affected in any way by my teachers being late with submitting the recommendations? Will it let me submit my applications before the recommendations are submitted?

I am no expert on this, but I recall seeing threads that what is important is that YOUR APPLICATION be submitted by the deadline, and that schools are generally more forgiving of the school’s portion of the application when it comes to these deadlines. Of course, I would follow up with the recommenders and your counselor the day you step back on campus.

Yep, ^ is right. Your app has to be in by the deadline (“your app” being the portion that YOU have to fill out and that YOU have to submit yourself). Things that other people send, such as recommendations, scores, etc. are okay if they come in late, as long as they are weeks late. You can send your Common App in at any time. Make sure that you contact your registrar and make sure they send in everything soon.

How do you know your supporting materials haven’t been sent? If you’re looking at an admissions checklist, it’s highly probable that they were sent, but, as most admissions offices are closed now, your checklist just hasn’t been updated.

@LAMuniv If the recommender is sending their evaluation online, the Common App shows whether the recommendation has been started/finished. I’m assuming that’s how OP knows the recommendations haven’t been sent.

OP, I’m in the same situation. Very low chance my recommender is going to send it on New Years, so I’m just sending my application now and talking to him in person first day back.

@thanksagain Yeah I sent them an email. But no reply yet. Assuming they are not checking over the break. So I am talking to them first day back!
@LAMuniv Like thaksagain said, there is a place on the common app under recommenders that shows if they have started or completed the evaluation/recommendation yet! Mine shows they have not started the recommendation yet.
Even so, my recs were submitted well before the Nov. 15 deadline to my ED school, and one of the still says that it’s in progress. I checked with the teacher and it was done and sent a while ago. So, if your recommenders aren’t submitting electronically, it’s hard to tell.
