I am currently working on completing all my common app applications; unfortunately, I am unable to complete all of them because some recommenders have not yet submitted their letters. I was wondering, is the deadline for rec letter submissions the same as the actual application's deadline? I was able to submit applications to almost all colleges in my list even though not all rec letters have been submitted. Can someone help?

get them in as soon as possible. colleges may forgive the lateness as long as that is the only missing portion

Thats the only portion im missing

Email/call the colleges you are applying to and explain your situation to them. I’m sure most if not all of them would understand, though I can’t personally guarantee you anything.

I don’t think you need to contact the colleges. As long as YOUR portion of the app is done, most colleges give a little leeway for the sections your school has to provide. Follow up with your GC’s office the first day back from break to see if they have the letters yet from the recommenders so they can upload them. If not, check in (politely) with the recommenders and ask if they can complete them in the next few days.

Think of it this way: colleges have many (usually thousands) of applications to review. They have plenty to do for a few weeks working on apps that are complete, and could not get to all of them right after the deadline if they tried. They want to know if you can meet YOUR deadline (which it sounds like you did), but they understand about transcripts and letters, that sometimes the high schools don’t get stuff in right by your deadline. Unless the school says specifically someplace that they will not consider any application where any component is late, I would not worry about it and would just try to get them in within a week of school starting up again.

And… don’t be rude to your recommenders trying to push them too much. You want them to have good thoughts about you when they are writing.

Hi,
If you have not checked with your recommendation teacher, coach, proffessor, etc. recently. They may have already submitted it, but the status of it was not changed. My school had to manually change the status of the recommendation as submitted. That is and has been one of my concerns with commonapp.

Check with your guidance department and recommender to make sure they have submitted it and if the status was not changed.

If your recommenders haven’t submitted it. Based on your applications deadline’s inform them of the dates. Always be polite when informing them. As stated above do not be rude because they are the individuals you want writing good things about you.

After my recommenders submitted their recommendation’s I thanked them in person and through email. Email first, then person.
