Common App Released Aug 1st!!!

@ibNervous: You can attach the resume to the additional info. section of CommonApp (they give you the option to upload a doc). I gave a brief description of my activites and also the amount of time spent.

How many activities did you list? Because my problem is that I have kind of a lot of activities.

Extra Curricular:

 • National Honor Society
 • Spanish Honor Society
 • Mu Alpha Theta
 • Science Honor Society
 • Key Club
 • Ecology Club
 • Tennis
 • Chorus
 • Class Council
 • Homecoming Council
 • Writing Center Tutor

Community Leadership Positions and Activities:

 • Co-Founder: Local Elementary School P.E.P. Program (teaching/babysitting Latin American students, communicating with parents, etc.) (10-12 Grade)
 • Volunteer, Hospital Junior Volunteer Program (10-12 Grade)
 • Team Captain (11th Grade), Recreational Basketball (7-12 Grade)
 • Member, College Early Identification Program (for First Gen. College Kids) (7-12 Grade)
 • Volunteer, American Red Cross Youth Corps (10-12 Grade)
 • Church Nursery Volunteer, Church (9-12 Grade)
 • Member, Church Youth Group (9-12 Grade)
 • Tutor, Middle School Spanish Club (9-12 Grade)

I’m most passionate about Spanish activities and Science/Ecology Club though…and also, should you list more awards in the resume?

I have like 7 ECs, 7 Volunteer, 2 paid jobs, and a long list of awards (all fairly insignificant ones). And yeah, I would list all the awards you received in the resume (big or small).

Ok thanks GoldOwl! I’m the kind of person who just hates bragging about themself, lol.

For the SAT II and AP section, what happens if I want to report more scores? I want to report 3 SAT II scores, 2 more that I will take, and 9 AP scores, but there’s only 8 spots! How can I report the remaining scores?

@ibNervous: LOL. Don’t be modest…you have an amazing list of ECs and community services (I’m having second thoughts about my resume just looking at yours).

sara12, where was the enrichment activities section?

and susancani, commonapp.org

i’m trying to fill out the section that has AP/SATII test scores but the dropdown list wont work.

Where do you put your ethnicity on the common app? I have gone through every section and didn’t see it.

@RocknPiano: It’s in the demographics section. It’s optional, but I suggest you fill it in.

Also, what if I’m a closet Christian and I don’t really have a certain category other than Christian. Do I just put other?

^actually if you’re asian i would best advise to not fill it in.
Even though colleges could detect your asian-ness from your name, they won’t take it into consideration if you leave the demographics section blank.

^ Lmao, I’m Hispanic. Better luck next time, stereotyperrrrrrrrrrr.

I was talking in general. I wasn’t referring to you specificially.

^ Well, you arrowed up at me -.- .

Do you intend to enroll in a degree program your first year?
What is this asking?

@nattilee I asked the Common Application Support and they tell me that the SSN depends on universitites because they are responsible about financial aid.So I send an e-mail to Columbia University which is one of universities that I apply.

@ibNervous i put some activities but I will use the additional information because it didnt have enough space.:)

Good luck to all of you:)

@redivorys

I don’t think your statement makes sense. If they can clearly see you are asian from other parts of the application (say, your last name, your first language, etc) they will assume you are Asian. It doesn’t matter what you put in the demographics, because they would already know that you are Asian.

^well in the link it says some colleges do use race (presumably the top ones). By not self-identifying your race, you’re giving the hint to colleges, asking them to evaluate your application based on merit.
Sure colleges can assume you’re asian, but im sure they will get this hint you’re trying to get across.
