My daughter has taken the SAT twice and will be taking it again in October. Her SAT scores were not that strong. She has since taken a four month SAT class. Should she wait to apply to schools after her scores come back in November? On the Common App I know that you can put past scores and upcoming dates. Will it hurt her to do this? Will decisions be made off of her last two SAT scores only or will they wait until the October scores come in. My other question is should she apply and just put down that she is taking it in October and then submit all of her scores at one time? Thank you!

As you probably know, many schools offer preferred scholarship opps for Nov 1 applications. If your daughter’s current scores are in range for typically admitted freshmen, I would go ahead and apply, indicating that additional scores will be forthcoming.

If her list includes some reaches that are relying on a much improved Oct score that you would otherwise NOT apply if she doesn’t get a much better score, then I would wait. Otherwise, you can submit whenever – again indicating that scores will be forthcoming from the October testing. Colleges know this so they don’t discard people who might be on the bubble. e.g. let’s say one reach school looks at your DD’s app, submitted in Oct. Otherwise, all things look good – the SAT is the only questionable thing. They’ll hold off deciding until the newest scores come in. Remember, they are looking for ways to admit your DD.

In the Oct sitting, use the free score transmittals, for sure.

Good luck.
