So I was just looking at the common app (don't know why, already done with everything, but anyway), and one of the entries is IM address. Say what?!?! I mean are they planning on interviewing you online or something? So yeah, if anyone can speculate with any strong theories that would be interesting. :)

The admissions officers want to know whether you type in 1337sp34k or not.

Or if you're actually 14 and willing.

wow, that's awkward.....
i too am surprised they'd want that.....

I actually made another IM address because I was embarrassed with my current one. I wanted to appear slightly more professional (as professional as you can appear when you are using AIM). Haha!

I would actually be very impressed if they started doing interviews online.. that's be kinda fun. Though I guess it would be easy to fake.

hahaha i did the same thing. my current sn is embarrassing because i made it when i was 11 and at the time thought it was cute, but now it seems immature and just not what i would want to represent me...so i got a new one that's boring and just kinda eh

bump....seriously does anyone know why they do this

i just left it blank...

I'd advise you to leave it blank.

I left it blank.

Why would you advise anyone to leave it blank? Obviously if it's there, it's to collect information. I don't see how any adcom would look upon you unfavorably unless your screenname was utterly ridiculous. There are some people out there that actually use AIM for useful purposes.

What's your phone number and mailing address, please?

I am only asking this to collect information, and maybe I will use it for a useful purpose. And why would anyone not answer my question?

All my online/im names are the same thing so I don't mind putting it lol.

I still want to know why they do this.

so they can stalk you

lol
my aim sn is incredibly stupid and im embarassed just thinking about it, but im too lazy to change it

It's there so that colleges can contact you if they can't reach you by email or phone.
